2008/2009
BEST FRIEND MODEL TRAIN SHOW

THANK YOU to all the vendors and exhibitors who  joined us for the  2008 TENTH ANNUAL BEST FRIEND MODEL TRAIN SHOW on November 15-16, 2008.  We are already planning for the 2009 ELEVENTH ANNUAL BEST FRIEND MODEL TRAIN SHOW.  If you were a 2008 vendor you will be hearing from us in early March 2009 about the 2009 show.

We especially want to thank NORFOLK SOUTHERN for their part in making the 2008 show a success.  Their engineer caps will be worn with pride by our vendors as we celebrate Norfolk's role in making modern day railroading a viable entity in America.

A popular display this year was made available to us by the family of John Smith, engineer of the Best Friend of Charleston for 15 years prior to his retirement from Southern Railway.  His top hat and uniform were on display along with John Smith's photo wearing the uniform.

Watch this site for photos from the 2008 show.  Soon you will be able to see photos of the children who attended the show to watch Mike West's Traveling Thomas Show and the Charleston Area Model Railroad Club display.  Also, remember that the club will have their annual G Gauge display at Charleston Place in downtown Charleston from Thanksgiving through New Year's Day.

Many of the photos from our 2008 show will feature children playing with the remote control  Lego train built by show director, Mary Lehr, and her 5 year old friend, Jackson Lyman, of Atlanta GA.  We will again have our Lionel Dealer and Thomas the Tank Dealer at the 2009 show.

2009 TRAIN SHOW

The Best Friend Model Train Show began in 1999 as an endeavor by local model train enthusiasts to provide a venue for displaying traveling stock and marketing items related to model railroading.  Under the leadership of Carl Blum the show has grown to wide acceptance throughout South Carolina and beyond.  The displays range from the sophisticated  to the frivolous.  The main display hall plays host to our resident Lionel experts and other vendors, as well as rolling layouts of trains in various gauges from N Gauge to O and S Gauge and G Gauge.  In past years, the display of Thomas the Train has been chased around the tracks by the "Lady Bug Express," much to the delight of children and parents alike.  We will again have Lionel's 2007 limited edition of the Best Friend of Charleston on display.
Make your reservations early for the Tenth Annual Best Friend Model Train Show.  As the leadership of the show is passed to Mary Lehr, plans are being formulated for new advertising and revamping of some of the current features of the show.  Look for upcoming announcements regarding new offerings at the show for increasing the enjoyment potential for vendors and displayers.  We will be visiting other model railroad shows over the coming year to meet new vendors and model train fans attending the shows. See the 2009 Hickory Model Train Show video.
